Finding the right supplier for PET cans can be daunting. The market is flooded with manufacturers, trading companies, and middlemen. If you pick the wrong partner, you risk leaking cans, poor clarity, or shipping delays. Here is a checklist for B2B buyers to ensure you source high-quality PET cans.

1. Virgin Material vs. Recycled Mix 

Always ask the supplier about the raw material.

Good: 100% Virgin PET resin (offers the best clarity and strength).

Good: Certified rPET (sustainable, but may have a slight tint).

Bad: Unregulated recycled scrap. This results in "cloudy" or yellowing plastic and weak walls. Ensure your supplier provides FDA or EU food safety certifications for their resin.

2. The Neck Finish and Sealing Compatibility 

This is the most technical part. Not all cans fit all lids.

Standard Size: The most common neck size is "202" (roughly 52mm diameter). Ensure your supplier's can is calibrated for standard 202 SOT (Stay-On Tab) or EOE (Easy Open End) aluminum lids.

Seamer Match: Ask the supplier for the exact dimensional drawing of the "flange." Send this to your sealing machine manufacturer to confirm compatibility before ordering 50,000 units.

3. Wall Thickness and Top Load Strength 

Ask for the "gram weight" of the can. A can that is too light is cheaper but will buckle when you stack pallets on top of it.

Soft Drinks: require thicker walls to withstand internal pressure.

Still Drinks: require structural ribs or nitrogen dosing to stay firm. A reputable supplier will ask you what you are filling before selling you the can.

4. MOQ and Lead Times 

Factories often prefer massive orders. If you are a startup, look for suppliers who keep "stock molds" inventory. This allows you to buy 5,000 or 10,000 units instantly. If you need a custom shape, be prepared for a 4-6 week lead time for mold creation plus production time.

Sourcing PET cans is a partnership. Look for a supplier who asks technical questions about your filling process and sealing equipment, rather than one who just gives you a price list. Their attention to detail will save you thousands of dollars in wasted product later.
